Production Blog: Music

Its been too long to ignore the burning question at this point. What music are we going to use? We had the absolute highest hopes to use "Everything In Its Right Place" by Radiohead. I emailed them in early January, and we had some high hopes since we got a message from the bassist in return. After a while though, I began to notice him acting strangely. He would type with missing words and always end each sentence with the word "okay." He would continuously direct message me asking if I had $500 in bitcoin or Steam gift cards. This is when we began to realize this whole situation was super sketchy. At one point, he called me "little baby" which is when we came to the conclusion that this is not in fact Colin Greenwood, but a scammer impersonating him. I stopped responding to him and he stopped bothering me after I told him that we do not have the money. A few weeks later, I checked his account to see if there were any comments on his posts about this acco

Production Blog: Final Touches

After school, the four of us went back to Barnes & Noble to film our remaining scenes. I brought along my white sweater, eyedrops, and white bow just in case we may need to use them again. We stopped for a quick snack at the Starbucks downstairs since we had just gotten out of school and were a bit hungry. After finishing our food, we went upstairs to see what we could do. We came into the store clueless about what we were going to do. It was only a matter of creativity that could save us now. We walked along the bookshelves trying to find something we could film. Sammie got a few shots of the books on the shelves from different angles that we can potentially use, even though they are only a few seconds long. We tried to get some clips of the books flying past while on the shelves but they might look too chaotic to put into our final task, as it is already chaotic enough as it is. We really hope this makes up for the 20 seconds of footage that we don't have. If it doesn't,

After Isaac left, we had to start brainstorming ideas on how to achieve longer footage. Since we couldn't go back and film me again, we didn't know what to do. Eventually, we decided to try to go back another day and just film random excerpts of books on the shelves. Maybe throw in some distorted clips of our surrounding area. We decided that our solution was sufficient enough and moved on with the editing process. We kept updating Isaac as we edited so that he would be able to have a say in things and contribute to the project. As we kept adjusting clips to try and make them a little longer, we stumbled upon another dilemma: we don't know what music to use! We are all hoping to get the rights for "Everything In Its Right Place," but the clock is ticking so we need to come up with backup options. We scrolled through a bit of royalty free music and found some potential options. We wrote down the names and are keeping them for future purposes.  As we continued worki

We ended off our quick Barnes & Noble trip with some celebratory Starbucks before heading back to Sammie's house to start editing. They messed up my order, but it’s okay! We had about 45 minutes to edit since Sammie had to go somewhere at 1:30. The first thing we did was go through all of the clips we have taken from the past two times we have filmed and pick our favorites. There were so many different clips of each shot, especially the bird's eye view where I walk into frame and sit down. It took us a pretty long time trying to decide which clips to use in the end. There were so many that we took that we couldn't decide! Once we decided which clips to include, we looked up the order of the titles. We made sure to put each title in the certain order it has to be in. We then inserted some random clips we filmed in between each title so that it wouldn’t seem too crowded. Some videos were accidentally filmed vertically, so we had to make sure to adjust them and make them

It's been difficult finding a time to meetup and complete our final task since we have all been very busy this month. Isaac had rehearsal for our school's show everyday including Saturdays and Lilly and I have rehearsal and youth group on Sundays, so our dates would never align! February flew by fast! We didn't realize it was over until our teacher told us we only had a few days left to submit our production blogs. Finally, we were able to find a date to finish filming and begin editing. We made a list of the titles and shots that we were missing and what how we were going to place them. We decided to have Lilly and Isaac's names be planted in book titles for the "Featuring and Written By" titles, Sammie's dad's name on a Spotify cover for our "Music By" title, and Sammie's name on a sharpie for the "Executive Producer" title. Before I left the house in the morning, Lilly asked if I could wear the same outfit I wore the first d

After we had messed up my makeup a but more, it was time to get into some real action. But before we could do that, we had to find out how many titles we are going to need. We put together a list of every title we needed and wrote down who we are going to put and how we are going to execute it. For example, we are going to use the spine of a book to write the editor's name. We are going to include the names of some of the members of our friend group in our titles, with consent of course. A really cool idea that Sammie had was for the "Music By" title. She suggested that after we find the song we are going to use, make a copy of the album cover with the song name and with "Music By" written on it as a title. Moving on, we began to make the titles by having me sloppily write them on notebook paper. My handwriting was neat and normal at first, but as we kept writing the titles, they progressively became messier and more chaotic. I had to write with my fist firmly

I had forgotten how much fun we had filming our music video. Starting to film our final task was super enjoyable! But before we could start filming, we had to decide who was going to be our main character. We agreed that as an artistic choice, we only wanted to have one person on screen the entire time. Our dialogue would derive from conversations being "overheard" in the background. We ruled Sammie and Isaac out from our options as they had already played a big part in our music video, leaving only Lilly and I. Lilly did not want to be seen on camera, so we collectively agreed that I should be the main character in our final task. Every little detail matters, so for my costume, we decided to dress me more preppy and coquette like a schoolgirl. The plot of our final task would look less obvious if I dressed cutesy.  Finally, the day we were going to begin filming arrived! We decided to start filming on a day that we got out early from school because it was tough figuring out

Hello again! It feels like a while since I have written on here. But we’ve finally started our final task! Before we began to film, we came up with a storyline and discussed what songs could fit with our final task best. We came up with a few options: Us and Them by Pink Floyd, Where Is My Mind? by Pixies, Everything In Its Right Place by Radiohead, and A Day In The Life by The Beatles. We landed on being persistent about Everything In Its Right Place by Radiohead, as it was the song that best matched with our final task. The song begins somewhat normal, and then spirals into strange noises and morse code, which we thought would be perfect for when the main character starts to slowly spiral into insanity.  I began to search up Radiohead’s production company, licensing department, and followed all the members of the band on every social media site I could think of. Lilly and I composed an elaborate message explaining the purpose of our final task and what we would need this song for. I
