Production Blog: Editing

Image
After a long day at the recording studio, we were getting a bit hungry. Sammie’s dad took us to lunch at BurgerFi! After eating, we went back to Sammie’s house to begin editing. We took a break from working to listen to The Smiths and relax a bit. Afterwards, we jumped right back into it! Sammie had a large desktop computer which made it very simple to see how we wanted to organize things. We cropped our the videos that contained our storyline and put them all together as one long video first. We realized we only had 40 seconds worth of storyline. We still needed 45 more seconds. Thankfully, all of those small, silly excerpts we took were going to come in handy!  We poured all of the videos that we took into one folder. We picked what we liked and rearranged them to fit the timing of the song. Which brought up another issue: we didn’t know the timing of the song. At first, we were going to edit the song itself to play as the intro, the first verse, the second chorus, and then the brid

Isaac had to leave early while we were recording on Saturday, so we had to spread out the process. We decided to continue recording Sunday since everyone was free. Again, we met at Sammie's house in the morning. We made sure to grab our storyboard, fisheye lens, and instruments and then headed into Sammie's dad's car so he could drive us to his studio. The location was around 15 minutes away in a wide alleyway. On the outside, the studio looked like a door in between bricks. But the inside was beautiful. It contained many instruments and recording devices, I can't even begin to describe it. After taking it in, we started to warm up our instruments and plug everything necessary in. I got situated behind the drumset, Isaac was next to me on the bass, Sammie was in front of us on the guitar, and Lilly was next to Sammie on vocals. We started off with a practice round to get used to the new setting and to make sure everything was working before we started to film. The speak

Yesterday was our first day of filming and it was so much fun! We all agreed to meet at Sammie's house at 10 AM but I accidentally slept in and woke up at 9 AM. This may not have seemed like a problem at first because I live 2 blocks away from Sammie but Lilly had asked me for a ride since her parents are out of town, so I had to go pick her up. It takes 15 minutes to drive to Lilly's house and then 15 minutes to drive back to my neighborhood. Meaning I only had 30 minutes to get ready! We ended up arriving 15 minutes late to Sammie's house. It was no big deal since we were not rushed or anything. Once we were there, we got everything situated and organized including our outfits and makeup. For clothes, we all picked outfits that were from the same era when Weezer was popular; so mainly jeans and graphic tees. We all also put on messy, smudged, makeup to give us that grungy look.  We then made a gameplan for what we were going to record and when. We decided that Sammie and

The day is almost here: recording day! We are all so excited to begin working on this project. Its going to be so much fun! We have almost all of the basics figured out: where we will meet, at what time, where we are going, our props, etc. We agreed to meet Saturday, October 21 at Sammie's house at 11 A.M. It may seem a little early, but we could only find one day where everyone is available to record due to all of our very busy schedules. So we have a lot to do in a short amount of time. The only thing we aren't very sure about is what we are going to wear. We were considering wearing what Weezer wears in the cover of their "Blue Album," but we also want to make it seem like a more realistic story rather than a scripted video that could make us seem like we are trying to copy the band. We are most likely just going to wear regular street clothes that fit the vibe of that era. The 90s alternative rock look consists of run down jeans and loose shirts; nothing too fanc

After finally finishing my commercial, it was time to start working on my music video. The group I am working with consists of three of my friends: Lilly, Samantha (Sammie,) and Isaac. For our song, we decided to do "Say It Ain't So" by Weezer. We were thinking of doing a song by The Beatles or Queen. But after a bit of convincing, we agreed to do a song by Weezer. The iconic choice would have been "Buddy Holly," but we decided in Say It Ain't so because we could create more elaborate scenes with this song. A very cool concept that we are planning on doing is making it seem like we are actually playing the song. Sammie plays guitar, Isaac plays bass, and I am a drummer. Lilly will pretend sing. We are going to go to Sammie’s dad’s recording studio and film ourselves playing the song which we will later use clips of in our music video.  Initially, we agreed to meet on October 28th to start filming. We were all going to drive over to Sammie's house (lucky

Now that I am done with my commercial, I have to start working on my music video! For my group, I decided to work with Lilly Gonzalez, Samantha Burton, and Isaac Gafanovich. I have known Lilly since we were 5 since we go to the same church. She has been my best friend for a while now, so working with her was an obvious choice. I met Samantha (Sammie) at a theatre camp when we were 7. We had forgotten about each other until we re-met in middle school. Recently, we have been becoming better friends because we are both very musically inclined, so we decided to start a band called Hazel's Dead. Sammie is also one of Lilly's close friends. Us three being friends, of course we had to work with each other. Last year, Sammie and Lilly were in the same AICE Global Perspectives class as Isaac, which is where they had met him. He sat with us on the first day of school this year, and that is where I met him. Since we have all been sitting with each other since the beginning of the school

My favorite genres of music are rock and funk, and my favorite artists are Bruno Mars, Maroon 5 and Radiohead. I am so excited because I was able to get tickets for the Bruno Mars concert on December 7! He has been my favorite artist since diapers.
