Production Blog: Filming at the Recording Studio
Isaac had to leave early while we were recording on Saturday, so we had to spread out the process. We decided to continue recording Sunday since everyone was free. Again, we met at Sammie's house in the morning. We made sure to grab our storyboard, fisheye lens, and instruments and then headed into Sammie's dad's car so he could drive us to his studio. The location was around 15 minutes away in a wide alleyway. On the outside, the studio looked like a door in between bricks. But the inside was beautiful. It contained many instruments and recording devices, I can't even begin to describe it. After taking it in, we started to warm up our instruments and plug everything necessary in. I got situated behind the drumset, Isaac was next to me on the bass, Sammie was in front of us on the guitar, and Lilly was next to Sammie on vocals. We started off with a practice round to get used to the new setting and to make sure everything was working before we started to film. The speaker behind me radiating the music was turned off so I could not hear what was going on, so thankfully we had a practice round before we started to get really into it. The set that the studio had was huge and sounded so crisp with 5 toms and 4 different cymbals! I was in paradise.
We started out the filming process by getting many videos of us playing the song at its full length in different lighting, angles, and lenses. The main video of us playing that will be used for majority of our music video is of all of us with a fisheye lens. We also took many more videos of us playing including with dim lightning, normal lighting and no fish eye lens, dim lighting and fish eye lens, and with Sammie's dad walking around positioning the camera in different angles and getting close ups of everyone playing. He actually tripped on a wire during one of the shots and fell down! After we finished our various takes of us playing, we got some silly shots of us just fooling around and we finished recording the story line to our video. We began with Sammie turning on the lights and running out the studio as soon as she sees Isaac, and Isaac chasing after her and bringing her back inside. We then got close ups of each of our faces just fooling around. We filmed a shot of Sammie and I jumping off the couch and Isaac screaming in the middle of the road. My personal favorite is a short clip of me crashing my head into the snare. I can already tell this music video is going to look so cool!
