Production Blog: Filming at the Park

Abby and Donovan are actually lifesavers! Without them, we had no idea how we could get this project done. Abby was going to film most of our clips, and Donovan was going to be there to help us either play a background character or hold our things. But sometimes, Abby would be used as a background character and Donovan would film. Asking them to assist us worked out great! Before Abby left her house, we had asked her to bring a book and a butter knife. Aidan thought he had put them in his car prior to leaving his house, but he accidentally forgot. So we had to ask Abby if we could borrow her objects, and thankfully she let us.

We began by meeting up at Holiday Park. Aidan and I waited in his car for a little bit formulating a game plan while we waited for Abby and Donovan to arrive. We decided that first we would film a few scenes on a bench near one of the soccer fields introducing the characters. As Abby and Donovan were arriving, Aidan and I made our way out of his car to find an empty bench and settle down. The park was a little crowded, but luckily we were able to find an empty spot.

I began by filming a few establishing shots of the park and the fields to put at the beginning of our film, showing the location we are in. While I was doing so, Abby was filming a close up of Aidan breathing, as if he were out of breath from running. I then settled down on one of the benches and opened the book, pretending to read. The next shot we were going to do was a tracking shot of Aidan running. But Donovan accidentally filmed it vertically, so he had to reshoot it horizontally. In the far back of the clip of Aidan running, you can slightly see my character on a bench reading her book, which I thought was a cool little feature. Donovan then went behind me and filmed an over-the-shoulder shot of me reading and Aidan running in the distance. Once we made sure that all of our clips looked presentable, we moved on to our next location.
