Guess Who's Back!

I'm back for another year and now I am in A Level Media Studies! My name is Amélie De Kegel and I am a junior at Fort Lauderdale High School. I am 16 years old and was born on March 21, 2008 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but am from Belgium and Mexico. My family moved to Belgium 6 months after I was born for around a year, and then moved to Spain after my mom was rejected entrance to the United States. My lifelong passion has always been music and I hope to accomplish a career in the industry. My favorite genres of music are rock and funk, and my favorite artists are Bruno Mars, Noah Kahan, and Hozier. I was lucky enough to be able to see both Hozier and Bruno Mars in concert. I am hoping to someday see Noah Kahan as well. I also love musical theatre and have been in over 30 musicals! Some of my favorite roles being Alice in The Addams Family and Rafiki in The Lion King. I very recently played my dream role in my dream show, Eurydice in Hadestown, and just auditioned for a production of Little Shop of Horrors. I'm hoping to get Audrey, but we'll see how it goes. I am mainly a singer but I also play drums and guitar. I have been singing since I was 7 and have built my career throughout the years. I have been in six bands and am currently in three: the lead singer in my church’s worship band, the lead singer in an alternative music based band named Hazel’s Dead, and an officer in my school's Rock Ensemble club. My dad is a lighting designer and there are many perks to that. Especially getting free VIP passes to many concerts. I’ve met many artists before, including Pitbul and Train. There are many little hidden features about myself that few people seem to notice. For starters, I dye my hair often and my jewelry always matches the color of my hair. I also have a star piercing on one ear and a moon piercing on the other. Next summer, I am going to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York with my church choir. Over the summer, I also attend a camp in Ocklawaha, Florida named YCM Younglife Southwind’s The Great Escape. Since I am now a high schooler, I have to work at that camp. I was assigned to be a cook for two weeks and it was an amazing experience which I am really looking forward to going back next year. Speaking of camp, I regularly attend youth group every week and have formed some of the strongest bonds with people I have known since diapers. In a few weeks, I am going to Chihuahua, Mexico with my mom to visit family for Christmas and New Years. I am so excited to resume this class!
