Production Blog: Editing
And finally... we're editing! After all of the chaos with scheduling, missing days, and rushing our filming process, we have finally made it to the editing stage. It feels a bit odd not having to worry about aligning our schedules. But now we have entered an entirely new challenge: piecing everything together. The two of us expected this process to be very smooth as we had finished shooting most of our film. The only thing we were missing was two shots of each of us realizing that we had switched bodies. But that was an easy fix. It is something that we can just film separately and then add later. We both had plenty of experience with editing as we had to edit our music video and final task for AS-level last year, so we believed we were set. Boy were we wrong. We quickly realized we had forgotten most of our editing knowledge, such as where certain buttons are and how to move things around.
We began by watching the raw and unedited footage, and we could already spot so many mistakes. Some where you could see one of the actors in the background in a scene they were not supposed to be in. In others, the wind was too strong and it covered the dialogue. There were even a few where one of us, including the camera man, would break character and you can see and/or hear the person laughing in the background. But we had hope that everything was going to end up working out. One thing we didn't know could happen was how much the story could change in editing. If you mess up one little thing or forget to add in a certain scene, the entire storyline could change. Aidan decided to add laughing tracks and dramatic tracks to certain scenes in order for the audience to easily differentiate which feeling we were trying to go for. We were nowhere done, but we decided to call it a day and resume editing once we had the final few scenes shot.
